Bengals' Head Coach,
Marvin Lewis
|
On May 3rd, 2006, Springer held its annual fundraiser, A Springer Celebration!, at Paul Brown Stadium. Cincinnati Bengals' Head Coach, Marvin Lewis, was our special guest and award honoree. The evening included cocktails & hors d’oeuvres, a silent & live auction, basket raffle, dinner, and the presentation of the Springer Champion Award to Coach Lewis.
The Springer Champion Award recognizes an individual who demonstrates passion and commitment to children, through their work or philanthropy. Marvin Lewis is a Springer Champion.
On April 7, 2006, Coach Lewis visited Springer School and Center. He immediately connected with Springer students, listening to their explanations about schoolwork, answering questions they had, and talking to them about the importance of their education. He stressed that they give every job their best effort, and that everyone learns in different ways (including his own football players!) and that that’s okay. Using his celebrity status in a positive way, as he does so often in our community, Coach Lewis sent powerful messages to Springer students. The impact of those messages and the memories of that day will last forever.
Coach Lewis has been a tireless community activist and youth advocate in Cincinnati, giving his support to organizations such as Boys & Girls Club of Greater Cincinnati, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and countless others. In October of 2003, he and his wife, Peggy launched the Marvin Lewis Community Fund to empower, educate, and inspire children while enriching the region. The MLCF serves as a conduit for donors eager to connect with worthwhile, inner-city programs while also funding other area non-profits. In its short existence, the Marvin Lewis Community Fund has donated over $1,000,000 to its recipients and programs.
Looking ahead, Coach Lewis plans to continue lending his voice, visibility and passion to issues that affect the Greater Cincinnati Region and its children. He will continue encouraging his players to follow his lead, while inspiring countless other leaders in the community to do the same…he is a true Springer Champion!
