UNIFIED ARTS          

The Unified Arts program consists of art, music, and physical education classes and motor therapy.

Art

    

  • Curriculum is based on the elements and principles of design 
  • Various mediums used: watercolor and tempera paints, pencil drawing, clay, pastels, paper, fibers, and paper mache
  • Students work with 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional art forms
  • Students attend art class once per week.
Music
  • Many rhythmic activities, creative expression, listening, singing and playing various instruments.
  • Primary and Intermediate music curriculum incorporates elements of the Orff-Schulwerk philosophy.
  • This year’s featured composers are: Ludwig Von Beethoven and Scott Joplin. 
  • Intermediate classes play the recorder.
  • Upper School focuses on beginning guitar. 
  • Our musical theatre unit for the Upper School students will be “Fiddler on the Roof.” 
  • Students attend music class once per week.
Physical Education
  • Year begins with “Challenge by Choice” unit – these activities develop group cohesiveness and problem solving.
  • Development of essential skills and fitness are focused on for remainder of the year through traditional games and sports activities .
  • All students have opportunity to experience the Climbing Wall.
  • Motor needs assessed in P.E. class at beginning of year.
  • Students attend physical education classe twice a week.
Motor Therapy
  • All students evaluated to determine if motor services needed.
  • Activities to enhance and strengthen coordination, gross and fine motor skills, and handwriting.
  • Goal is to help student carry over new skills and strategies to classroom and everyday activities.
