TECHNOLOGY

Students at Springer use technology tools for assistance in areas such as reading, writing, spelling, and comprehension.  Below is a list of some of the technology tools that students are currently using at Springer.

Kurzweil 3000 is a program designed to help students with their reading and writing skills. Its ability to scan and read text allows the student to strengthen comprehension. Kurzweil also has an impressive study skills feature which allows the student to highlight and extract the main points of a passage.  Integrated reference tools such as dictionary, synonyms, syllables, spell word, audible spell checking, along with word prediction and vocabulary list features facilitate both reading and writing.

Created for K-5 learners, Kidspiration provides an easy way to apply the proven principles of visual learning. Students build graphic organizers by combining pictures, text and spoken words to represent thoughts and information.

The AlphaSmart 3000 allows a child to enter and edit text, then send it to any computer for formatting or directly to a printer. Its portability allows students to use it anywhere and anytime—in the classroom, at home, or on field trips.

The Franklin Speller is a handheld device that can be used to correct misspellings and pronounce words. It also provides the user with a grammar guide to aid in the writing process.
The Spellex Word Finder and Thesaurus uses contextual sentences to validate meaning and ensure proper word use, and provides immediate access to words that students want to spell correctly. The wordbook lists 3,000 base words with their suffix forms alphabetically—more than 10,000 of the most commonly used words in writing.  The thesaurus helps students expand their vocabulary choices and enrich their writing.
