The Wilson Reading System® is an intensive reading program that directly and systematically teaches the structure of the English language. Based on Orton-Gillingham principles and the science of reading, the Wilson Reading System® is an explicit, multisensory structured literacy program designed for students (grades 2-12) with a language-based learning disability, such as dyslexia.

Springer School and Center offers several professional learning opportunities for educators looking to learn more about WRS:

Wilson Reading System® Introductory Course
The WRS Introductory Course provides an overview of the Wilson Reading System® (WRS) 4th Edition curriculum and serves as the prerequisite for WRS Level I Certification. Over three consecutive days (16.5 hours), this course provides teachers with the knowledge and skills necessary to address the five principles of literacy instruction: Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Vocabulary, Fluency, and Comprehension. This course offers participants hands-on activities utilizing WRS research-based, multisensory strategies to maximize the learning of students with reading difficulties.
Prerequisites: None
Duration: Three consecutive days (16.5 hours)

Wilson Reading System® Advanced Strategies for MSL Group Instruction
This workshop delves into essential techniques and strategies to improve all aspects of Wilson Reading System® (WRS) small-group instruction through hands-on practice and discussion, and prepares participants for the WRS Group Mastery Practicum.
Prerequisites: WRS Level I Certification; Bachelor's degree in education or related field
Duration: Three consecutive days

Wilson Reading System® 4th Edition Level I Certification - Individual Teacher Practicum Course
The WRS Level I Certification program is designed to prepare teachers to effectively implement WRS Steps 1-6 with students who are reading and spelling below grade level, as well as those diagnosed with a language-based learning disability, such as dyslexia. It consists of two components: 1) the WRS Intensive Instruction for the Non-Responsive Reader (Steps 1-6) online course and 2) the WRS Steps 1-6 Practicum.
Prerequisites: WRS Introductory Course completed within the last 5 years; Bachelor's degree in education or related field
Duration: Individuals have 12 months from the date of enrollment to complete the online course and practicum
Graduate Credit: Up to nine (9) graduate credits (optional) are available through Fitchburg State University, Fitchburg, MA, upon completion of course requirements. Please see wilsonlanguage.com for details
