News & Views Spring 2025
July 30, 2025The Springer High School sophomores and junior built a canoe to focus on teamwork, problem solving, and creativity. The Urban Wilderness Program came to SHS to work with the students to complete this task. The instructors that joined us have built over 200 canoes with other schools including Pleasant Ridge Montessori, Covington Catholic, and more! Mr. McKinney organized the project that lasted 7 days. Students described the experience as fun, cool, skill-building, interesting, and collaborative. They enjoyed using the power tools, working with the instructors, and learning new skills. We worked very hard on it and are hoping it will float. We hope to auction off our canoe to raise money for Springer High School!
