Wilson Reading System® Introductory Course PD

The WRS Introductory Course provides an overview of the Wilson Reading System®, 4th Edition curriculum and serves as the prerequisite for WRS Level I Certification. This course provides teachers with the knowledge and skills necessary to address the five principles of literacy instruction (Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Vocabulary, Fluency, and Comprehension). This course offers participants hands-on activities utilizing WRS research-based, multisensory strategies to maximize the learning of students with reading difficulties.

Course Content:

  • Definition of dyslexia and how to identify common characteristics
  • Appropriate student identification and placement
  • Program implementation
  • Progress monitoring, scheduling, and establishing a successful learning environment
  • Principles of language structure
  • Practice how to teach language with direct, multisensory methods
  • Plan and deliver the 10-part Wilson® Lesson Plan while receiving modeling and feedback from a Wilson® Credentialed Trainer during the course
