This ADHD Awareness Month, we hope to support your journey with practical tips and insights. Whether you're seeking strategies to manage daily challenges or just looking for relatable content from someone who has been in shoes like yours, check out these two videos curated for you.
Jessica McCabe from the YouTube channel How to ADHD and Laura Key from Understood.org discuss mental load and strategies they use for lightening the mental load in this episode.
They share several great strategies that they use personally, including:
1. Externalizing the load: To get things off your mind, try using checklists, wipe boards, calendars and timers.
2. Creating visual cues: These can be very personal and different for each person, but one example is setting morning medicine out in the spot where you eat breakfast. The idea is seeing the bottle will trigger you to take your medicine.
3. Have fewer things to manage at once: “If you want to do more, do less” is the adage to remember. Try to make yourself a wish list of to-dos, but then reduce it to a smaller number that you can reasonably achieve and still be satisfied with. You can do a lot of things, but not all at once.
For another perspective on life with ADHD, check out ADHD Jesse. In this video he speaks with Jay Miller, a software specialist at Microsoft about his road to an ADHD diagnosis at age 29. Jesse's channel features his entertaining podcast, ADHD Nerds, which includes different guests each episode.
