An Evening to Remember
"Yes, finally after sixteen years, I'm going to graduate," Sr. Marianne told her audience at commencement. Admitting that she, too, was asking herself the critical question: "Will I be able to do the work?" Sister urged the graduates to seek happiness by setting goals for themselves, as they contemplate what lies ahead. "They will change a number of times of course, but the important thing is that the process is in place."
The graduates were encouraged to experience the present, because this experience is the foundation upon which their adult life is built. She warned against being so intent on being grown up and reaching future goals that they present is seen primarily as a sentence or a period of waiting. Not all goals are realistic, Sister Marianne pointed out, "because we sometimes seem to be unrealistic in what we think we can be or do."
