Farewell to Mrs. Thaler

Beloved Art Teacher Corrinne Thaler concluded a 44-year career with Springer this spring. As she toured the building, applauding students lined the halls to say goodbye. Mrs. Thaler was gifted with a set of Adirondack chairs and a table decorated with the fingerprints of all students and staff members.

Artist in Residence Printing Designs

After Middle School Core Group students' designs were carved onto wooden bench slats, Artist in Residence Emily Moorhead-Wallace made prints of the slats so that the student artists will have a record of their creations.  Emily was assisted in the printing by her father, Earl Moorhead. The carved slats will be assembled into benches and installed on Springer's campus.

Artist in Residence Core Groups

Norita Aplin Artist in Residence Emily Moorhead-Wallace worked closely with a small group of Middle School students to create two wooden benches that will be placed in the vegetable garden area behind Reuben Hall. The students drew designs which were transferred onto cedar slats, and then they carved their designs into the wood.

Artist in Residence Emily Moorhead-Wallace

The Norita Aplin Artist in Residence for the 2020-21 school year, Emily Moorhead-Wallace, spent time with each art class. Middle School students helped the artist to assemble components of a pollinator habitat sculpture, which will provide nesting sites for bees and other pollinating insects. Lower School students drew designs that will eventually be painted on a series of birdhouses Emily is constructing for a Chicago project.
